MDC Announce UK National WWE® Community Champion!
WWE and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign have named 14 year old Laura Bizzey from Suffolk as the first UK national ‘WWE Community Champion’.
WWE teamed up with the UK’s leading muscle disease charity the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign in February 2011 to launch a national search for the UK’s first WWE Community Champion, with the aim of encouraging young people across the UK to support their local communities.
The judging criteria included being under 30 years of age and volunteering for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign or showing support for people with muscle-wasting conditions.
Laura Bizzey has a condition called minicore (multicore) myopathy. This condition causes scoliosis of the spine and means she has difficulty holding up her head. Laura is also constantly challenged by a reduced lung capacity.
Despite this, Laura has campaigned tirelessly and completed a 10k charity walk, Just Walk, raising an amazing £1,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
In recognition of her outstanding achievement, Laura won a meet and greet with WWE Superstar Triple H and tickets to the WrestleMania® Revenge Tour at the London O2 Arena April 19th.
WWE Superstar Triple H, ambassador for the WWE Community Champions campaign said
"It’s an honour to partner with MDC to help raise awareness for those affected by debilitating muscle diseases.
"I am truly inspired by the perseverance the adults and kids demonstrate every day in overcoming the challenges of muscular dystrophy.
"With this campaign we hope to encourage young people all across the UK to volunteer and become WWE Community Champions"
Laura Bizzey enthused "It’s such a thrill to be awarded WWE Community Champion for all my fundraising efforts and support of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign while constantly battling with my own crazy muscle wasting condition."
